Farmington Hills: Thief Walks Off with Salvation Army Donation Kettle

Farmington Hills, MI – The Farmington Hills Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect responsible for stealing a Salvation Army donation kettle this afternoon. The theft occurred outside the Walgreens located at 27750 Grand River (near Eight Mile) at approximately 4:45 PM. A witness observed the suspect take the donation kettle, including the stand, and walk away from the scene. The theft occurred as the Salvation Army volunteer bell ringer stepped inside the business for a brief moment. The stand was later located behind an area business. However, the kettle and an unknown amount of money were removed by the suspect and not recovered.
The suspect is described as a white male, 6’0” tall, thin build, and is believed to be in his early 20’s. He was wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt and khaki pants. A photo of the suspect carrying the kettle and stand was obtained from a neighboring business and is attached to this press release.
After responding to and conducting the initial investigation, members of the Farmington Hills Police Department’s Afternoon Shift put together a collection to help replace the stolen money. Together they raised $248 dollars. Upon hearing about the generosity of the Department members, an anonymous donor contributed an additional $300, bringing the total amount donated to $548. The money was presented to the Salvation Army this evening.
