Royal Oak Comedian Doing
Food Drive for Dogs
(Crystal A. Proxmire, Dec. 6, 2015)
Though normally full of laughter, there is a sad spot in comedian Leslie Norlin-Thompson’s heart when she thinks of her dearly departed dog, Beau the Wonder Dog.
Beau, a Bassett lab mix, passed away on Dec. 18, 2014 with no prior warning that he’d been sick. Norlin-Thompson and her wife Cindy had been Beau’s humans for nearly 15 years. The sudden loss was jarring, particularly at the holidays.
She had to do something. So she used her experience producing comedy shows and promoting them, to put together an impromptu collection drive, to buy food and treats for dogs in the Michigan Humane Society.
“One of things I loved about Beau (and there were many) was that he was a ham. He loved getting his photo taken and would sit for his pose…and his ears always stuck out to the side. He looked like the Flying Nun,” Norlin-Thompson said. “Of course he knew he was going to get rewarded with a treat if he sat like a good boy. That is one of the reasons we are also collecting/buying treats for the Michigan Humane Society food cupboard. Every dog should get a treat when they’ve been good.”
This year Thompson is going all-out with her push for feeding the puppies and doggies waiting to be adopted. She has partnered with Premier Pet Supply to get bags of food and treats at cost with any of the money that comes in. And North Main Animal Hospital, P.C.. is serving as a drop-off spot for money and for food. North Main Animal Hospital is located at 1611 N. Main in Royal Oak. The drive is going through Dec. 15th.
