(Crystal A. Proxmire, Dec. 3, 2015)
Ferndale, MI – A man has been shot in the face on E. Hazelhurst in Ferndale in front of a home near Wanda Park, in the 1700 block.
Lt. William Wilson released the following statement on Dec. 4, 2015:
“At about 8:10 last night, Ferndale Police responded to a report of a man shot near Hazelhurst / Wanda. Upon arrival, they found a 20 year old man and 20 year old woman who were victims of an apparent robbery attempt. The man had been shot in the face (apparently two times). The victims live in the neighborhood. They claimed to be sitting in their vehicle when they were approached by two b/m’s in their 20’s, each carrying handguns. The assailants pointed guns at the victims, and one of the suspects began shooting. The assailants then retreated, while the one continued firing his gun. The female victim said she thought the two men were going to rob her and her boyfriend, and the one suspect may have accidentally shot her boyfriend, panicked, and continued shooting while retreating.
FPD has no further information to share at this time, but I will keep you informed of any updates.
We ask members of the public that may have information on this case to call the Ferndale Police (248-541-3650) or Crime Stoppers for a potential reward for anonymous tips.”
UPDATE: Lt. William Wilson told the Daily Tribune that the victim likely knew their assailant, and that the victim is expected to live but will be undergoing surgery to remove a bullet from his head.
