Gas Can Explodes During Leaf Burning, Injuring Woman and Two Kids

INCIDENT: 15:36 hrs. – Nov. 29, 2015- Highland Township – Injured Person(s) – #15-194700
SUMMARY: Deputies and the Highland Township Fire Department responded to the report of an explosion on the 3000 block of Lester Drive. The homeowner had been burning leaves in her backyard in the presence of her two children when the gasoline can that she was using to sustain the fire ignited and exploded. The gasoline contained inside the gas can was projected onto the homeowner and her two children. The homeowner’s clothing caught fire. A neighbor who witnessed the incident responded to assist the homeowner with extinguishing the fire.
OUTCOME OF INCIDENT: The homeowner and her children sustained non-life threatening injuries from the fire and were transported to McLaren Hospital – Oakland for medical treatment.
