Madison Heights Police Searching for Person Spotted at Murder Scene
(Crystal A. Proxmire, Nov. 19, 2015)
Madison Heights police are still searching for this unknown man seen at a house fire November 1 in the 3000 block of Groveland that killed 59 year old Fernando Gonzales of Madison Heights.
A sketch was released by the department of the man they are looking for.
The victim, Ferndando Gonzales, was found inside the burning home. An autopsy revealed he was murdered by strangulation. Gonzales lived alone, but had many visitors due to his hair-cutting business.
“I’m dumbfounded right now,” said brother-in-law Van Welch the morning after Gonzales’ death. “This was so hard to wake up to. He was the nicest person, no enemies that I know of. He’d give you the shirt off his back.”
Welch said Gonzales was a licensed barber with lots of clients. “People would come all the way from Chicago to have my brother-in-law cut their hair,” he said. “I wish you could meet him. No one would ever want to hurt him.”
Neighbors said Gonzales was friendly to everyone, and often had neighbors over to visit. “He’s been my neighbor 15 years,” said a woman who lived next door. “Every year he would do something new to his house, a project.”
If you have any information on his identity, please call Madison Heights police at 248 585 2100.
