(Compiled, Oct. 29, 2015)
On Oct. 23, 2015 Auburn Hills Officer Martin Mikolajczak was hit by a driver fleeing the scene of a routine traffic stop. In a dash-cam video, the suspect is seen breaking away from the officer as he tries to handcuff her, then getting in the driver’s seat and backing up, striking Officer Mikolajczak and pushing him into the front of his patrol vehicle.
Police Chief Doreen Olko released the video, which includes her explaining the incident. She also noted on her “Straight from the Chief” blog “It is hard to watch but fortunately he wasn’t seriously injured and was back to work right away.”
The video concludes with a lesson. “If the driver in this video would have cooperated with the officer, she would have been issued a misdemeanor citation and released at the scene. She would have been detained less than 30 minutes. She is now acing several felony charges that could result in imprisonment of 5 years or more.”
