Oak Park: What’s on Your Ballot?

Election Day is Nov. 3, 2015 and voters in Oak Park will have a couple of choices on the ballot.
Current Mayor Marian McClellan is being challenged by Aaron Tobin.  Both candidates did interviews with the Oakland County 115 News.  Tobin also made headlines when he published a mailer that went to homes of absentee voters giving false information, including a made up quote attributed to The Oakland County 115, and a quote that was misattributed to The Detroit News.  The oc115 and the Detroit News responded to the falsehoods.  Metro Times columnist Jack Lessenberry even took notice of the campaign, which is being run by Josh Cline, ex-staffer for State Representatives Todd Courser and Cindy Gamrat.  Cline apologized for misrepresenting the oc115 in the flier, though the campaign has yet to mail out a correction.

Also on the ballot are two candidates for City Council:  Solomon Radner and Ken Rich.  They are running unopposed as there are two seats.

Voters in the Ferndale School District will also face a non-homestead millage renewal that is a tax on businesses and landlords.  This is a 20 year renewal on a tax that has been in place for 20 years.  The millage brings in about $4.1 million, which is roughly the cost of operating an entire elementary school.  A video interview with Ferndale Schools Superintendent Blake Prewitt explains the millage.

Note that the oc115 does accept advertising from candidates for office.  McClellan is an advertiser, Tobin is not.  This does not impact coverage.
