A 28-year-old Madison Heights man died at Beaumont Hospital Monday after being shot multiple times in a home in the 2800 block of Fern in Royal Oak, police say.
The man was reportedly dropped off at the hospital around 1:30 am and later died from his wounds according to Royal Oak Police Lt. David Clemens.  He said there was no EMS call.
Royal Oak Mayor Jim Ellison spoke with reporters earlier today while the SWAT team was waiting on a warrant to enter the house.  As of noon, Oakland County Forensic experts were on the scene, and a pit bull had been removed by animal control from the home.
“This is a crime scene so we don’t want any animals in the house,” said Lt. Clemens.
Police staked out the home through the early morning before gaining access.  “Could not find shooter so we treated it like a live shooter situation. We think we may know where he is but we needed a warrant to get into the house,” Lt. Clemens said.  He added that he believed there was no reason for neighbors in the area to be concerned for their safety.
Mayor Ellison said people should look for suspicious people, “but have faith in our police department.”
Lt. Clemens apologized for being vague but said there would be an update later in the afternoon.  “We’re still working on leads and don’t want to jeopardize the case,” he said.
