Veterans and Mass Transit,
Meeting Oct. 28
(EVENT page)
Veterans are preparing for Veterans Day 2015 by engaging in a campaign to bring real public transportation to Southeast Michigan.
Area veterans, friends and family are meeting with the Regional Transit Authority’s top official from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 28 at Breakers Covenant Church, 8801 Woodward Avenue in Detroit to consider “The Future of Regional Transit in Metro Detroit.”
“We are excited to be working with the RTA to plan a regional transit system that will allow veterans of all abilities and all walks of life to get where they need and want to go safely and quickly”, said Rickey Wright, President of REBOOT. “People all over want to support veterans. That is why we think they will vote to improve public transportation…not just for veterans, but for students, workers, professionals, everybody”.
The forum is being presented by REBOOT, a local veteran’s organization created by and for area veterans and sponsored by the Detroit-based Harriet Tubman Center and Breakers Covenant Church, Reverend Aramis Hinds, Pastor and member of Detroit Clergy Gathering.
Getting to work, accessing health care or getting to destinations that offer resources that are critical for life sustaining and life enriching activities, can be a challenge for veterans because current transit in Southeast Michigan is not connected and many communities have no transit at all. “We feel blessed to be a part of this important event”, said Reverend Hinds. “Veterans served our country with honor. We owe them true transportation options that get them everywhere they need and want to go safely and quickly. They’ve earned it”.
