ROYAL OAK SYMPHONY CONCERT FEATURING BEETHOVEN SYMPHONY NO. 4
Friday, October 28, 8:00 pm
The Royal Oak Symphony opens its 2015-2016 season on Friday, October 23, 8:00 pm at the Royal Oak Middle School, Dondero Auditorium. The school is located at 709 N. Washington Ave. in Royal Oak — 1/4 mile north of Eleven Mile Road.
The program includes contrasting works from the symphonic repertoire:
“Dances of Transylvania” by Bela Bartok (1881-1945)
“Norwegian Dances, Op. 35” by Edvard Grieg (1843-1907)
“Symphony No. 4” by Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827)
These three pieces, written in vastly different styles, contrast rhythmic energy with slow, lyrical melodies.
Geoffrey Benes will be the guest conductor. Mr. Benes has a teaching career centered in Troy where he was the conductor of the Athens High School Orchestras from 1992-2015. He currently serves as an elementary strings teacher in Troy. He also is a conductor for the Detroit Metropolitan Youth Symphony.
Tickets are $15 for adults; $12 for seniors and college students, with age 18 and under free. Tickets are available at the door, or by calling 248-549-0262.
The Royal Oak Symphony Orchestra (ROSO) is a community supported group comprised of 60 adult musicians. ROSO is dedicated to the cultural enrichment of the greater Royal Oak area, recognizing the importance of music education for youths and adults.
