Ferndale Exchange: A New
Forum for Discussing Developments
(City of Ferndale Press Release, Oct. 22, 2015)
The City of Ferndale has announced the launch of a new online engagement tool called Ferndale Exchange. The social-based website will be a key component in the organization’s ongoing goal of engaging residents in discussions about the City’s Master Land Use Plan—a comprehensive, community-aided guide to future land use and development in Ferndale.
The website, www.ferndale-exchange.org, offers the City and its residents and business leaders a variety of ways to connect with each other about matters of development and improvement in Ferndale. City officials will use the site as a complement to more traditional engagement methods—including committees and public “town hall” meetings, which have seen a decline in participation in recent years.
“Ferndale Exchange allows residents and business owners to participate in their government in a modern and innovative way,” said Derek Delacourt, Director of Community and Economic Development for the City of Ferndale. “It allows the City to establish an open and ongoing dialogue with community stakeholders about the very things that affect their quality of life—future developments, park improvements, and more.”
The site is simply designed and easy to use, and allows users to interact in a variety of ways:
~View plans, diagrams, and photos to communicate proposed developments, improvements, challenges, or changes within the City;
~Answer questions and surveys;
~See news and updates about important planning and development projects; and
~Receive geo-targeted posts about matters impacting specific quadrants, areas, or neighborhoods within Ferndale.
“Ferndale Exchange will allow the City to seek measurable, valuable input from residents,” Delacourt said. “If you have ideas or questions about development in Ferndale, you could talk to a friend or neighbor—or you can come to our site and talk directly to us.”
