Hazel Park Councilperson
Jeff Keeton Candidate Interview (video)
(C. Proxmire, October 17, 2015)
After 13 years of navigating economic challenges, Hazel Park Councilperson Jeff Keeton is hopes to be re-elected to start enjoying all the positive changes he and fellow officials have been working for.
Keeton is on the Nov. 3, 2015 ballot along with five other candidates, and there are four open seats. The choices are incumbents Jeffrey Keeton, Andy LeCrueaux, Tom Selman and Michael Webb, plus Amy Aubry and Alissa Sullivan. Mayor Jan Parisi is on the ballot unopposed.
There are two main reasons Keeton is running. “The team that we had worked well together and the proof of that is keeping away from the emergency manager’s door,” he said. “And the second is all the hard work that was put into this is now coming to fruiting, and it would be really nice to emerge from 13 years of destitute and actually be able to do some fun and nice things for the city Hazel Park.”
In his interview with oc115, Keeton talked about several issues relevant to the campaign, including animal control, volunteering, the Land Cure Project, business development, public safety, and his history in the community.
Keeton grew up in Hazel Park and has a work history that translates well into his council duties. He was a paramedic in the Detroit Fire Department, President of the Detroit Fire EMS Union, and a business agent with the International Union of Operating Engineers. He’s also been involved in several community groups including the Hazel Park Education Foundation, Chair of the Hazel Park Arts Council and a leader in Cub Scouts.
