(Crystal A. Proxmire, Oct. 14, 2015)
Seven months since coming on board, Darrious Hilmon, Executive Director of Affirmations, has announced that he will be leaving the organization on January 1, 2016.
A press release from Affirmations states:
“Darrious has brought a fresh perspective and ideas to the Center, including a greater focus on outcomes-based programming.  He led the development of some exciting new initiatives, including the XTL (Cross the Lines) Youth Leadership Development, and XTL Youth Workforce Development programs, and the Affirmations L.E.A.D. Institute. Darrious also strengthened our ties to the corporate community in the metro Detroit area. We are excited to watch and support the work of some talented new staff members that were hired during his tenure,” said Frank Aiello, UrbaneAd_04President of Affirmations’ Board of Directors.
Affirmations’ Board of Directors has begun the process to identify an Interim Executive Director to ensure that the Center has strong leadership after Mr. Hilmon’s departure.”
Affirmations is a community center for LGBTQ people and allies located in Ferndale.  Hilmon began working at Affirmations in March of 2015.
Prior to coming to Affirmations, Hilmon touts nearly 20 years of measurable experience in strategy driven fund development, event management and marketing. As Vice President and Chief Development Officer for the Chicago Urban League, he serves as a member of the executive management team with lead accountability for planning and execution of all fund development activity, as well as design and implementation of organization and program twist_club01evaluation systems. Prior to joining the Chicago Urban League, Hilmon was the Chief Development & Marketing Officer for Youth Guidance, Vice President of Corporate, Foundation and Government Relations for Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana, and Marketing & Development Director for Mosaic Youth Theatre of Detroit where he led the team responsible for winning the Neighborhood Builder Award from Bank of America (the first Detroit non-profit to ever win the award), and the Achieving Excellence Award from DTE Energy.
seed14_chad_mattJill Proctor, Director of Marketing and Communications for Affirmations said “Hilmon felt that the time was right to move on from the organization.”  She said that due to privacy concerns she could not release the amount of Hilmon’s salary, the terms of his contract, or any information about if there is a severance package or not. This is actually not true, since Affirmations is a 502(c)3 and the oc115 is looking into legal routes for compelling the organization to release this information.
