Shooting Death Under
Investigation on N. Altadena in Royal Oak
(Crystal A. Proxmire, Oct. 12, 2015)
Neighbors at N. Altadena and Forest in Royal Oak woke to the sound of at least one gunshot early Monday morning. Police say a woman in a home on N. Altadena just north of Forest is deceased and the male companion from the home is at the police station being questioned. They will not say if he is a suspect, but Police Chief Corrigan O’Donohue says he believes there is no reason for neighbors to fear for their safety.
According to O’Donohue, the incident under investigation took place around 2:30am. A woman was shot inside the home, and was subsequently treated in the street by paramedics. She was transported to an area hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries.
Police could not release much information as the investigation is still underway. The area is blocked off with police tape and the blood in the road remains partially blocked by a police van. Chief O’Donohue says he believes this is the first murder this year for Royal Oak, and that the average is less than one a year.
A neighbor who wished to not be identified recorded the noises outside his window. The man called 911 then recorded the audio of what transpired after the call on his cell phone.
There was screaming and loud voices, but it is unclear who the voices belong to. A male voice says “He’s still in there. He’s in the house.” It is possible that they may have said “she,” since the audio was not that clear. A male voice also says “[indistinguishable] is dying on the floor.” A male voice mentions a “firefight”, and says “But I shot her.”
A second recording has beeping as the paramedics try to revive the victim.
Other neighbors report hearing arguing before a gunshot.
Altedena St. was also the site of a murder in May 2014, when a man reportedly trapped his mother in the basement and set the house on fire. https://oaklandcounty115.com/2014/05/23/woman-found-dead-in-royal-oak-fire-son-in-custody/
