BoysGirls_trait_01Animals Rescued in Royal Reid_Sally_115Oak Need Homes
(Royal Oak Police Dept. Press Release, Sept. 29, 2015)
Royal Oak, MI – On September 28, 2015, at 1:21 p.m., Royal Oak officers assisted Animal Control in the 1000 block of Edgewood. The residents in the immediate area complained of a strong odor coming from the home and suspected the residents, a 54-year-old male and a 48-year-old female, were hoarding animals.
The homeotwist_club01wners cooperated with authorities and allowed access to the home. Officers and Animal Control found 84 cats and 7 dogs inside. Due to the large number of animals, Oakland County Animal Control was contacted and assisted with humanely collecting and transporting the animals to the Oakland County Animal Shelter.
Although the conditions of the house were deplorable, the animals all appear to be in good health. They are currently being medically cleared and we are hopeful each animal will be eligible for adoption. The Oakland County Animal Control Division did a great job assisting our agency with this incident. Housing 91 animals requires a significant amount of space and resources to care for them.934_8600_Gen-Online_Banners2
The goal of the Oakland County Animal Shelter is for each of these animals to be adopted by caring individuals looking for a new pet. Anyone interested in adopting one of these animals should call the Oakland County Animal Shelter at (248) 391-4100 or visit their web site www.oakgov.com/petadoption.
The Oakland County Department of Human Services and Royal Oak Code Enforcement were contacted due to the poor condition of the home. The couple is cooperating with the investigation and no charges have been filed at this time.
