Man Treated for Accidentally Shooting Self in Ankle

INCIDENT: 17:05 hrs. – 09-22-2015 – City of Pontiac – Accidental Shooting – #15-155576
SUMMARY: Deputies were dispatched to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital on the report that there was a victim of a gunshot wound being treated in the emergency room. The victim stated he was shot somewhere off of Bagley Ave by a black male wearing all black. Upon arrival, it became apparent to Deputies that the victim was not being truthful. The victim recanted his original statement and he admitted to Deputies that he had accidentally shot himself in the ankle after grabbing the gun from a friend. The victim indicated that he and a friend were walking on Gillespie Street near Bagley Ave when it occurred.
OUTCOME OF INCIDENT: An area check was conducted and Deputies could not locate the original scene of the incident. Deputies are continuing with the investigation and are attempting to recover the gun.
VICTIM INFORMATION: 21 year old male, resident of the City of Pontiac.
