Lake Orion Set to Unveil
Public Art, Ribbon Cutting Sept. 23
(event listing)
The Lake Orion Downtown Development Authority is very pleased to announce that they will be holding a Ribbon Cutting for the first public art piece installed in downtown Lake Orion. The Ribbon Cutting Ceremony will be held at 5:00 pm on Wednesday, September 23, 2015.
The butterfly sculpture was installed as part of a joint effort between the Orion Art Center, Lake Orion Horseshoe Club and the Downtown Development Authority. The DDA covered the cost of the materials and the design, fabrication, and installation was coordinated by Ron Price, president of the Lake Orion Horseshoe Club and Steven Leach, sculptor and owner of Custom Welding Co.
The Lake Orion Village Council authorized the placement of the sculpture near the Orion Art Center and the Meek’s Park Bridge. The Orion Art Center board is in the process of charting a vision to turn the Orion Art Center grounds into a butterfly sanctuary. The hope is to beautify the grounds and add more seating areas and bike racks so that the space will be much more inviting to bikers and community members once the Paint Creek Trail connection is extended thru Downtown Lake Orion.
The public is very welcome to attend. The Lake Orion Farmers’ Market will be open during the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony.
