Intoxication Suspected in Fatal Accident in Pontiac
(Oakland County Sheriff’s Dept, Sept. 13, 2015)
The Crash Reconstruction Unit is assisting deputies with the Pontiac Substation in the investigation of a fatal traffic crash.  The traffic crash occurred on Woodward Avenue at the intersection of South Boulevard at approximately 7:14 this morning.
Peter Whittaker a 64 year old resident of the City of Pontiac, was driving a 2015 Kia Forte eastbound on South Boulevard entering the intersection of Woodward Avenue at the same time that a 42 year old resident of White Lake Township was driving a 2011 Ford F250 Super Duty pickup truck southbound on Woodward Avenue.  The Ford entered the intersection and collided into the driver’s side of the KIA.  At this time, according to witnesses, it appears that the traffic signal for the driver of the Ford was red when he entered the intersection.
Mr. Whittaker was transported to St. Joseph Mercy hospital in Pontiac where he died a short time later.  He was wearing a seatbelt.
The driver of the Ford fled the scene of the crash on foot.  He was apprehended by the Sheriff’s Office later in the morning at a private residence in the City of Pontiac.
It is suspected that drug or alcohol use is a contributing factor in the crash with the driver of the Ford.  A blood sample was taken from him through a search warrant and the results of the analysis are pending.  He was lodged at the Oakland County Jail pending charges.  He was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
There were no passengers in either vehicle.
The crash remains under investigation.
