New Hazel Park
Superintendent Talks about District Turn Around (video)
(Crystal A. Proxmire, Sept. 11, 2015)
Dr. Amy Kruppe said she loves to do turn arounds.
And that process has begun in the Hazel Park School District as she and a team of six new administrators have been getting acquainted with the community and laying the groundwork for continued growth in the district.
Coming with a lifelong passion for education, Dr. Kruppe spent 16 years as a Superintendent and 7 years as Assistant Superintendent. Her Doctorate is in Educational Leadership centered around Social Justice. And she believes that “Every child deserves an opportunity. It doesn’t matter who you are or where you’re from, or how much money you have or don’t have, that every child needs to have the highest expectations and all the best opportunities.”
There is already much about the Hazel Park Schools that she sees as selling points.
The Promise Zone offers scholarships for qualifying students. Parents get involved and donate their time. Teachers and staff have stayed through hard times and pay cuts because they loved the kids. There are internships with Chrysler and students doing camp at Cranbrook. Hazel park also provides a Chromebook for every student in 6th grade on, and in K-5th students have 1 on 1 technology in the classroom. And, Dr. Kruppe said, they have hired “an outstanding curriculum director,” great principals, and “a great financial director that is going to set us in the right direction.”
In terms of direction for the District, there will be a strategic planning process that will involve parents and teachers that will take place in the wintertime.
