ROYAL OAK, MI. – The Royal Oak Board of Education unanimously approved hiring Michael Giromini as the principal of Royal Oak High School (ROHS) at its meeting Tuesday, September 1. While Mr. Giromini has been in the district this week, his official hire date will be Monday, September 7, 2015.
Giromini has six years of school leadership experience, most recently as the Director of Regional School Improvement and Accountability for the Plymouth-Canton Community Schools where he also acted as Curriculum Coordinator for K-12 Math, Science and World chazzano game adLanguage. His school leadership experience includes three years as the lead administrator for the Central Campus of the International Academy. Giromini began his educational career as a Physics and Science teacher in the South Redford Public Schools. Subsequently, he taught Physics and Mathematics at the International Academy.
Giromini received his Bachelor of Science Degree and Master of Arts in Educational Studies from the University of Michigan. He is currently pursuing a Doctorate of Philosophy, Educational Administration Degree at Michigan State University. In addition, he has extensive International Baccalaureate and Advanced Placement training.
Over 60 candidates applied for the position. As part of the selection process, six finalists interviewed with multiple panels including parents, teachers, students, building and district administrators. Through this process, Giromini emerged as the lead candidate. Meetings with the district leadership team and reference checks affirmed Giromini as the top candidate for the position. The recommendation to the Board of Education was made by Shawn Lewis-RustBeltAd01Lakin, Superintendent of Schools.
In making the announcement, Lewis-Lakin said, “I am pleased to recommend Mike Giromini to be our Royal Oak High School Principal. His experience, education, and energy provide a great match to the profile we developed for the position. We have a great team of educators at Royal Oak High School. Giromini is a strong leader who will help students and staff members continue to grow into the vision of excellence for all.”
In commenting on his appointment, Giromini said, “It’s truly an honor to join the fantastic team at Royal Oak High School. I’m excited to return to the building level to work with students and teachers, and am eager to continue the great work of the team.”
Members of the community and ROHS families will have an opportunity to meet Giromini at the ROHS Curriculum Night on Monday, September 14, 2015, as well as events being planned throughout the fall.
