The Ferndale Area District Library is pleased to announce our special program for toddlers and children during the 2015 Michigan Reads! program. Michigan Reads! is an annual early literacy program centered around one featured book and this year it’s Do Unto Otters by Michigan author Laurie Keller.
At 6:30pm on Thu. Sep. 17, Ferndale Area District Library will host Keller at an evening program catered to preschool and primary age children and their families.  Local bookstore HowesLocationThe Book Beat will be on location selling copies of Keller’s book for an author signing.  This program is open to all families regardless of residency and does not require registration.
The Michigan Reads! program is modeled after the “One Book, One Community” concept and is designed to emphasize the importance of shared reading practices with babies, toddlers, preschoolers, and young school-age children. These practices set the stage for fluent reading achievement in children as they enter school.
“We strive to provide programs that promote literacy within all aspects of a child’s world.  We are delighted to host the Michigan Reads! tour with Ms. Keller here at the library,” said Head of Youth Services Ashley Lehman.  “By reading together in the home, and as a community, families are setting up their young children for a successful learning career.”
