70th Anniversary of Victory
Day in Japan Memorial in Royal Oak Aug. 16
The Michigan World War II Legacy Memorial are celebrating the 70th anniversary of VJ Day on August 16, 2015 at Memorial Park in Royal Oak, Michigan. The celebration will be hosted by US Air Force veteran and Fox 2 Detroit Chief Meteorologist, Rich Luterman, from 1:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m.
VJ Day marks the day on which WWII ended with Japan’s announcement to surrender to the Allies.
Other highlights of the event include:
– A 3:00 p.m. flyover of a T-6 “Pilot Maker” plane from the Tuskegee National Airman Museum in formation with three motorgliders from Team Tuskegee
– Swing dancing to music performed by The Masters of Music Big Band
– Color guard presentation from Berkley American Legion Post 374
– Exclusive memorabilia, including hats, tees and 70th Anniversary medal pins
– The National Anthem sung by WWII veteran Harold Lanning
– Food trucks, special guests, and more
