A benefit concert for the Ferndale Area District Library
It’s been 5 years since the Ferndale Area District Library was renovated and expanded thanks to an increased millage voted (with enthusiastic support) by its citizens/patrons.
So we thought we’d throw a party!
But also call out to you, dear concert-goer… to consider stopping in to THIS PARTY to contribute a bit to the cause of Libraries everywhere! (You’ll also get a great line up of local talent performing great music…)
Libraries are at risk because, in the age of Google, many have forgotten how essential they are…
If libraries weren’t essential, then why would the world’s smartest and richest people (like Andrew Carnegie and Bill Gates) pour their time and money into them?
The message is clear: libraries matter. Their solid presence at the heart of our towns sends the proud signal that everyone – whoever they are, whatever their educational background, whatever their age or their needs – is welcome.
Doesn’t matter that libraries are busier than ever… Doesn’t matter that Ferndale’s hosted more programs, concerts, and special family activities than ever before…the scary facts are: Libraries are especially vulnerable to serious downturns in the economy, (especially when property values fall or stagnate…)
So on THIS night… Let’s party. Let’s rock. Let’s celebrate. But let’s do it in the name of Libraries!
No one will be shushed.
