Community Excellence Awards Competition Down to Final Four
Projects Involving Westland, Jackson, Auburn Hills, Royal Oak, Birmingham, Rochester Hills, Pontiac, Ferndale, Huntington Woods, Berkley, Orion Township, Oakland County in Final Round

The finalists in the Michigan Municipal League contest are:
Flood of Community Benefits Realized for NOCWA Members (Auburn Hills, Rochester Hills, Pontiac, Orion Twp., & Oakland Co. Water Resources Commission) – Contest category: Funding for the Future
Transforming Woodward Together – The Journey to Better Transit (Berkley, Birmingham, Ferndale, Huntington Woods, & Royal Oak) – Contest category: Michigan in MotionFerndale 115_FFL
Citizen Interaction Design (Jackson) – Contest category: Place for Talent
Westland City Hall Big Box Retrofit (Westland) – Contest category: Strength in Structure
“We’d like to thank all the communities that submitted CEA entries this year,” said League CEO and Executive Director Dan Gilmartin. “It was truly an outstanding field and a fantastic window into the many innovative programs, activities and initiatives taking place throughout our state.”
 
The finalists were among 16 projects, programs, and initiatives involving more than 20 Michigan communities vying for the statewide Community Excellence Award (CEA)—the most HowesLocationprestigious Michigan Municipal League honor.
 
This year’s Race for the Cup projects were divided into four categories: Funding for the Future, Michigan in Motion, Place for Talent, and Strength in Structure. Each entry was ranked by a panel of judges, and the public had a chance to weigh in through an online voting component. The projects’ final score was based on the judges’ ranking (75 percent) and the online voting (25 percent). The top entry in each category advanced to the final round.
 
Representatives from the final four will now present their projects at the League’s 2015 Convention in Traverse City, Sept. 16-18. After hearing the presentations, Convention attendees will vote for their favorite project, and the winner will be awarded the coveted CEA Trophy Cup at the conclusion of the Convention.
 
About the League: The Michigan Municipal League advocates on behalf of its member communities in Lansing, Washington D.C., and the courts; provides educational opportunities for elected and appointed municipal officials; and assists municipal leaders in administering services to their communities through League programs and services.
