Pledge_TOP_blueCommerce Twp: Woman ferncareAD_anyKisOKDead  After Being Trapped by Gate at Shop

(Oakland County Sheriff’s Dept, July 20, 2015)

FROM DAY SHIFT:  7-19-2015

INCIDENT: 13:32 hrs. – Commerce Township – Death Investigation #15-114401

SUMMARY: blumz07 Deputies responded to the 8100 block of Richardson Road ( a tool and die shop) for a deceased person. Upon arriving to work, an employee discovered his employer had been pinned by the motorized parking lot gate.  Deputies arrived and determined that the victim was obviously deceased.  The Commerce Township Fire Department partially disassembled the gate to extricate the victim.  The victim’s personal vehicle was parked with the driver door open, and with the engine running.

OUTCOME OF INCIDENT:  A detective and an investigator from the Oakland County Medical Examiner’s Office responded to assist with the investigation. It appears that the victim had been at work the previous evening. She had reached through chain link fence gate using keys to activate the gate and had become trapped between the motorized gate and electrical box. The gate normally opens automatically but it appears it did not and that is when she reached through to open it with a key. She somehow became pinned between the moving gate and the fixed portion of the fence near the electrical box. The Medical Examiner’s Office took Detroit_GT_ad04custody of the deceased and an autopsy was performed Monday AM with the cause of death being asphyxia by compression.  MIOSHA was advised and is also investigating.

VICTIM INFORMATION:  63 year old female, resident of West Bloomfield Township.
