Highland Twp. Fire Dept. Does Controlled Burn on Old Farmhouse
(Dave Page, July 19, 2015)
The Highland Twp FD was given a unique gift recently. They were given the opportunity to train on a house and eventually burn it to the ground. According to personnel on the scene, the current property owners bought the house with hopes of fixing it up, but costs kept mounting, so they sold off some of the parcels of the land, but before the sale would be complete they had to get rid of the early 1900’s farmhouse. So they offered the home on Lone Tree, between Milford and Hickory Ridge, to the FD.
Milford Fire personnel also were on hand to observe and provide support.
The FD began training yesterday practicing various rescue drills including the emergency bail out of a 2nd floor window. Today they did some more training, before they lit the home on fire, shortly after 10AM. The firefighters were not doing any active firefighting today, just protecting the wooded areas on either side and allowed the home to collapse on itself and burn to the ground.
