Oak Park Public Safety says it was a false report by a mother against her son that led to a scary situation on Monday for residents near Rennselaer and Oak Park Blvd.
At about noon on June 22, officers converged on a home on Rensselaer with weapons drawn.
“The incident that is being referred to was a domestic situation that occurred on the 24000 block of Rensselaer between a mother and son. The mother contacted Public Safety stating that her son had a gun and was threatening to shoot her,” Said Oak Park Public Safety Chief Steve Cooper. “Officers arrived on scene with weapons drawn and determined that the mother had lied about the incident. She and her son had gotten into a verbal argument over rent money and when her son refused to pay all of what she thought she was owed, she contacted Public Safety stating that her son had threatened her with a gun. She later admitted that she lied and that her son never had a gun. The argument was only verbal.”
Cooper said his office will be seeking charges against the mother for making a false police report.
