Autism Heroes Walk at Detroit Zoo June 28

The 1st annual Michigan Autism Heroes Walk will take off on Sunday June 28th at 8:30 AM at the Detroit Zoo. After the Walk, all are invited to explore the zoo until close. AAoM will provide entertainment at the events pavilion until Noon. This is a day you don’t want to miss!

The long-term vision of the Autism Alliance of Michigan is to ensure high quality services, remove roadblocks and create opportunities for all individuals impacted by autism so that they may lead purposeful and fulfilling lives.

Event Timeline
7:30AM Event registration and check-in begins
8:30AM Walk begins
9:00AM-Noon Post-walk festivities in the events pavilion

Walk Route
The Walk will be a 1.7-mile loop through the zoo. As you walk in honor of autism, you will have amazing early morning views of the animals. And, after the Walk, we invite you to stay at the zoo until close.

Parking Information
Guests they will enter off either Woodward or 10 Mile Rd and park in the large lot that runs parallel to 10 mile road. steele lindbloom adOnce the large lot has filled to capacity families can begin to park the parking structure. The small water tower lot is the last area we will park. Detroit Zoo guest relations staff members will be on hand to assist with directing guests into parking areas.

How do I fundraise?
It’s easy! First head to Crowdrise. Then, click Register. Follow the step-by-step guide and you will have your very own fundraising page. You can customize your page with photos and personal stories. Send out the link to your page on social media with the click of a button.

What if I receive a check or cash donations? Will they show up on my page?
Of course they will. Just send any checks made out to Autism Alliance of Michigan to our office:

Make sure to mark your team name on any funds coming in. We will add totals to your walk page as soon as we get them.

I am not sure how to fundraise…can you help?
Of course! Asking for money can be awkward at times, but there are plenty of ways to make it fun, while being seed_Mayor_Marian_McClellancreative! In fact, we have some tools to help in your fundraising efforts. You can host dress down days at the office or a happy hour at your favorite spot in town. Maybe you can hold a bake sale or a car wash. If you need any advice, please contact and she will be happy to assist.

Are donations tax deductible?
Yes! All donations are tax deductible. We will send out receipts for all donations.

How much does it cost to participate in the Walk?
We want everyone to be included in this exciting day, so there is no charge for this event. We do suggest making a donation of $10 when you register. And, this event will really thrive if those attending try their best to fundraise.
