Candle Wick Shoppe Celebrates
New Location
(C. Proxmire, June 13, 2015)
The first candle Jacki Smith created to sell turned out to be one that has served her well. She’d been inspired by seeing a field of bergamot that was lush and rich. “Bergamot helps calm fears,” Smith said. So she used that as part of her “prosperity” candle, a product that Coventry Creations continues to sell to this day.
The company that began with that stove-top-made candle in Smith’s kitchen in 1992, has now sold over 5 million candles around the world. This venture – Coventry Creations – has lit the path for Smith and her sister/business partner Patty Shaw to be standing in front of 175 W. 9 Mile in Downtown Ferndale with the big scissors in hand and ready to cut the ribbon for Candle Wick Shoppe’s next incarnation.
Surrounded by employees, friends, family and members of the community, the ribbon-cutting and open house took place June 11. Candle Wick Shoppe had been located in the basement of the building next door since 2009, so it now is moving up in the world. The front of the shop is orange like a flame and inside are a variety of magic-attracting products to calm the nerves, inspire the senses or light up one’s motivations. In addition to several lines of candles, there are crystals, packets of incense, Buddha figures, books, charms, sprays, gifts and items generally designed to bring awareness of energy and good feelings to the customers.
In the back is a room where Shaw and others practice Reiki and Akashic Healing. The sessions are designed to help people relax, gain positive energy, and heal.
The new space gives Candle Wick Shoppe more room, to keep the inventory a healthy mix of old favorites and new things, and of course hopefully draw in new customers.
It seems the “prosperity” candle continues to work for Smith and Shaw, and the Ferndale community. But what about for customers? How does a prosperity candle work?
Smith explained, “What that does is on a spiritual level it creates a vibration in your life, in your aura, in your energy, that welcomes that particular quality. The choice is yours what you’re going to do with that energy. But how to you even channel that energy without a path. This is how you create an energy map to help you get to the place that has become difficult to reach.”
