Suspect in Royal Oak and
Berkley Home Invasions Arrested

James Marino, was arrested for Home Invasion on May 29, 2015, after Royal Oak police officers responded to the 3000 block of Parker to investigate a suspicious subject who had been seen walking in the backyards. Upon arrival, the suspect noticed the officers and immediately fled on foot. Royal Oak officers, along with Berkley Public Safety officers, pursued the suspect and apprehended him a short distance away.
James Marino had been identified as the suspect in a Home Invasion which had occurred in the 3200 block of Warick on May 28, 2015. In this case, the homeowner arrived home and observed Marino run out the back door of her home while carrying a box. Officers arrived to the scene, established a perimeter and conducted a yard-to-yard search with a police K-9. Despite these efforts, Marino was not located. The officers canvassed the neighborhood, spoke to several homeowners and were able to obtain video of Marino as he fled the area.
Royal Oak detectives collaborated with Berkley Public Safety detectives and quickly identified Marino as the suspect in not only this Home Invasion, but another recent Home Invasion, nearby in Berkley. Thanks to the neighborhood canvass, a resident on Parker noticed Marino return to the area and quickly called police, leading to his apprehension.
Marino has a criminal history which includes Malicious Damage to Property, Felony Possession of a Controlled Substance, Driving While License Suspended, and Home Invasion. Marino is homeless and had been sleeping in various waiting rooms inside William Beaumont Hospital.
James Richard Marino was charged with Home Invasion Second Degree, which carries a penalty of up to fifteen (15) years and a $3,000 fine. He also confessed to a Home Invasion in Berkley on May 26, 2015.
On May 31, 2015, he was arraigned before 6th Circuit Court Honorable Judge Faycurry. He was given a $25,000 bond. His next court date is scheduled for June 8, 2015 at 9:00 a.m.
