Pedestrian Struck by Minivan in Downtown Royal Oak
(Royal Oak Police, May 29, 2015)

A 56-year-old Commerce Township resident was transported to William Beaumont Hospital after being struck by a minivan near the intersection of W. Sixth Street and S. Washington.
The victim was unconscious and suffered significant injuries. Two individuals in the immediate area rendered aid to the victim until emergency services arrived. The accident occurred on Friday, May 29, 2015, at 1:05 p.m.
Royal Oak officers determined the male pedestrian was crossing Washington heading westbound. The driver of the vehicle was backing up on S. Washington to park in a parking space and struck the pedestrian. The victim was not legally crossing the street when the accident occurred. He is currently being treated for head and back injuries and is in stable
The driver of the minivan, a 32-year-old female Bloomfield Township resident, was released from the scene pending further investigation. Neither alcohol nor weather conditions were a factor in this accident.
The Royal Oak Police Department Criminal Investigations Division, in conjunction with the Oakland County Accident investigation unit, is investigating this incident.
