Unidentified Body Found in Burning Van in Pontiac

INCIDENT: 12:53 hrs. -May 11, 2015 City of Pontiac – Arson Investigation/Fatal. #15-70766
SUMMARY: Deputies along with the Waterford Regional Fire Department were dispatched to the 200 block of South Blvd. regarding a vehicle fire involving a small shed. The caller could not determine if it was the shed or the vehicle that was burning.
OUTCOME OF INCIDENT: Deputies were able to locate a conversion van, which was fully engulfed in flames and secured the scene. When the fire was extinguished firefighters discovered a body inside of the van. According to neighbors the van had been parked in the rear yard for over a year. The owner was located and stated she has been trying to get rid of the van for over a year and has not been able to find anyone that would take it. Deputies began to canvass the area for any evidence or witnesses to the incident. Detectives and investigators from the OCSO Fire Investigations Unit responded to the scene. The Forensic Crime Lab was requested to process the scene. The charred remains have been unidentified only as a male subject. The Oakland County Medical Examiner’s Office responded to the scene and an autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday morning. The incident remains under investigation.
