Child on Life Support, Other Serious Injuries after Crash at Woodward & South Blvd.
(Oakland County Sheriff’s Dept, April 20, 2105)
The Crash Reconstruction Unit is assisting deputies from the Pontiac Substation with the investigation of a serious injury crash that occurred at 7:08 p.m. on South Blvd near Woodward.
A 24 year old female resident of Pontiac was operating a 2001 Chevrolet Blazer westbound on South Blvd when she ran a red signal and struck a 1999 Pontiac Montana van driven by a 23 year old female resident of Waterford which was attempting to make a right turn onto Woodward from westbound South Blvd. Also in the Pontiac van was the driver’s brother (16 years old), her nephew (2 years old) and her daughter (3 years old).
Witnesses state that as the Blazer ran the red signal, the driver made a quick turn to the left and “T” boned the Montana which was stopped waiting to make the turn.
Upon impact, the Blazer was pushed back into a 2006 Dodge Magnum which was stopped at the red light heading eastbound on South Blvd. That driver was uninjured and had minor damage to his vehicle.
The driver of the van was transported to St. Joseph Hospital by Star EMS in Pontiac in serious condition. The 16 year old middle seat passenger was transported St. Joseph Hospital by Star EMS and later transferred to Royal Oak Beaumont Hospital and is listed in critical condition. He was seated directly behind the driver. In the rear row of seats was a 3 year old female that was transported to St. Joseph Hospital by Star EMS and later airlifted to Beaumont Royal Oak Hospital and is on life support. Also in that row was a 2 year old male that was transported to St. Joseph Hospital by Star EMS and later transferred to Royal Oak Beaumont Hospital and is currently in critical condition. It appears as though both rear seat children were in car seats.
The driver of the Blazer was transported to St. Joseph Hospital by Star EMS and is listed in stable condition. Alcohol is believed to be a factor on this driver. A preliminary breath test was administered on her with a result of .156. A search warrant was obtained for her blood and will be submitted to the Michigan State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
Seatbelts was used by all parties in this crash except for the 16 year old middle passenger which seatbelt use is unknown. The crash remains under investigation.
