14 Year Old Girl with Airsoft Pistol Arrested for Theft from Vehicle in Ferndale
(Ferndale Police Dept, April 1, 2015
At about 7:40 p.m. on Tuesday March 31, 2015, a woman resident noticed a group of youths in the area of 9 Mile. She saw them acting suspiciously and opening car doors on Dover Street. The witness called the police who responded and found the group of five kids (aged 12-14). Officers determined that from one of the attacked vehicles, somebody stole a basketball. Upon further investigation, the officers learned from four of the five kids that the one responsible to actually stealing the ball was a 14 year old girl. Officers arrested her and found that she had a pistol hidden under her shirt. The pistol was a toy airsoft gun that looks identical to a real Sig Sauer semi-automatic pistol. The girl was released to her parents pending further court proceedings.
Accompanying the arrested teen were four other’s. Two were girls from Detroit, and one boy and one girl from Royal Oak Twp.
Police are not connecting these kids with the rash of LFA’s that occurred in Ferndale over the weekend.
Ferndale police want to encourage residents to do as the witness in this case did. Whenever a person merely suspects criminal activity may be occurring or is about to occur, they should immediately notify the police. This type of citizen response will help to prevent crime, and to result in arrests when crimes do occur.
