Community Invited to Participate in Birmingham Hometown Parade, May 17
For more than 40 years, the City of Birmingham has kicked off the spring and summer season with a community parade. The treasured community tradition, titled the Birmingham Hometown Parade, is scheduled for Sunday, May 17 at 1 p.m. in downtown Birmingham.
Members of the Birmingham community and surrounding areas are cordially invited to participate in the parade. Children’s activities, strolling parade performers, a tribute to veterans, food and live music will be held in Shain Park immediately after the parade. School groups, marching bands, girl/boy scouts, karate clubs, dance classes, veterans, organizations and businesses are encouraged to march in this year’s parade.
Residents who own a Jeep are being asked to participate by escorting local veterans through the parade. Take advantage of this fun, unique opportunity to become involved with the Birmingham Coinciding with a brand new exhibit about Woodward Avenue at the Birmingham Historical Museum, this year’s parade theme is “History’s Highway, the Story of Woodward Avenue.” From a major Native American Trail to modern-day transportation corridor, Woodward Avenue has shaped the City of Birmingham in many fascinating ways. Participants and parade-goers are encouraged to be creative and take part in this year’s theme.
