Six Clawson High School students have been chosen as semi-finalists in the ‘McDonald’s Celebrates Black History Moments on Canvas’ art contest. The contest honors the contributions of people of African descent to American and world history.
Each Clawson student’s historically accurate artwork depicts a significant figure in black history.

Metro Detroit McDonald’s restaurant owners will be giving away more than $5,000 in cash prizes. There will be a month-long gallery exhibit in May at the N’Namdi Center for Contemporary Art in Detroit featuring the best paintings, drawings, and sculptures about black history.
Only 50 semi-finalists were chosen from the tri-county area to advance to the final round. Twelve finalists will be selected for first-, second- and third-place prizes. There will also be prizes for the fourth through twelfth place winners, along with six honorable mentions.
