Suspect Arraigned In Death Of 7 Month Old Infant in Pontiac
(Oakland County Sheriff’s Dept, March 3, 2015)
The father of a 7 month old infant who was being held at the Oakland County Jail on Retail Fraud was arraigned today for an incident which occurred on February 26, 2015 in the 60 Block of Leonard Lane in the City of Pontiac.
Damon Honer, an 18 year old male resident of the City of Pontiac, has been charged by the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office with Felony Murder and First Degree Child Abuse in the death of the infant. He was arraigned in 50th District Court before Judge Michael Martinez. If convicted of the charges, he faces life in prison.
The charges come after an autopsy was performed by the Oakland County Medical Examiner’s Office who ruled the death of the infant a homicide. The autopsy revealed that the infant had sustained multiple fractures to the skull and died as a result of blunt force trauma.
“Crimes against children need to be prosecuted using the full extent of the law,” said Sheriff Michael Bouchard. “There is no an excuse for abusing a child and I hope that justice is served in memory of this little one whose life was taken away.”
Honer is being held in the Oakland County Jail without bond. His next court date will be a pre-exam conference at the 50th District Court on March 10, 2015 at 1:30 PM before Judge Ronda Fowlkes-Gross.
Honer has one prior arrest for retail fraud.
