Royal Oak Commissioners Fournier and DuBuc Announce Re-Election Campaigns
(Fournier and DuBuc Press Release, March 3, 2015)
The 2015 city elections got under way today when incumbent Commissioners Mike Fournier and Kyle DuBuc pulled petitions from the clerk’s office and each officially announced his intent to run for reelection. Candidates interested in running for a seat on the city commission must gather 500 signatures of registered Royal Oak voters.
First elected to 4-year terms in 2011, both DuBuc and Fournier are supportive of the other’s bid for reelection in November. “I’m proud of the work we’ve accomplished over these last few years,” said DuBuc. “With the support of Royal Oak residents we got our police and fire department staffing back up to where it needs to be and we stabilized the budget. Our neighborhoods have come back strong from the housing crisis of 2009 and we’re seeing millions of dollars in investments being made in our neighborhoods and local businesses.”
“I’m honored by the trust that my neighbors and fellow residents put in me, and I’m proud of the role I’ve played in the positive things that are happening in our community,” said Fournier, “After years of talking about it, we’ve finally got a quality hotel ready to break ground on Main Street. We’re investing in our parks, increasing walkability of our community and attracting new families to our city.”
The commissioners expressed their plans to go door-to-door over the coming months to ask for support from Royal Oakers, share their individual visions for the city and get feedback from residents.
“I’m running for the opportunity to keep the positive momentum we have in our community,” said DuBuc. “Royal Oak is on the right track, but we have to continue to strengthen our neighborhoods, support a vibrant, diverse business district and ensure quality services for all residents.”
Fournier agreed adding, “We still have some significant challenges to tackle. But at the same time we must continue to protect the amenities that current residents cherish which attract new families to our city– ample green space, a variety of parks and recreational opportunities for youth and seniors alike, safe, clean streets, a thriving local economy, non-motorized transit options and family-friendly community events.”
Before leaving City Hall DuBuc and Fournier signed each others petition.
