Woman Arrested for Impersonating Substitute Teacher in Waterford, Mother Also Arrested
(Waterford Police, Feb. 16, 2015)
On 2/16/15 at 10:08 am, Officers responded to the Riverside Elementary School for a complaint of a female impersonating a substitute teacher.
Arriving Liaison Officer spoke with the subject and when asked to produce some identification she produced identification of the real substitute teacher who is the suspect’s mother.
The 24 year old Female from the Flint area was taken into custody and transported to the Waterford Police Department for further questioning. The suspect admitted to investigators that she and her 44 year old mother also from the Flint area decided the daughter would go to the school with the mother’s identification because the mother had a prior appointment she did not want to miss.
While investigators were speaking with another family member of the suspect at the police department they noticed another female matching the description of the suspect’s mother in a vehicle parked in the police department’s parking lot. Investigators confronted the woman who identified herself as the suspect’s mother. She was escorted into the police department and interviewed by investigators.
Both mother and daughter suspects admitted to investigators that the reason for committing the fraud was strictly monetary reasons. Both suspects were booked and lodged at the Oakland County Jail. The case will be presented to the Oakland County Prosecutors Office for review and charges.

EDITOR’s Note: According to The Oakland Press, the mother was a legitimate substitute teacher through EDUStaff, which is based in Grand Rapids.
SUGGESTED STORY: In another incident earlier this month, an EDUStaff-employed basketball coach resigned from Bloomfield Hills Schools after admittedly slapping one student and making a comment to another student about having “nappy” hair.
