Clawson High School Seniors – Mason McDiarmid and Cody Sarvello – have been awarded Chick Evans Caddie Scholarships, a full tuition and housing college scholarship for golf caddies that is renewable for up to four years.
Mason and Cody both plan to attend Michigan State University. Cody, a caddy at Birmingham Country Club for four years, plans to major in biology or chemistry. Mason caddied at Red Run lisa schmidt lawGolf Club for three years and plans to pursue a degree in mechanical or software engineering.
The Western Golf Association funds the program largely through private donations from across the country. Hundreds of thousands of golfers donate at least $200 each year to the program, becoming members of the Par Club. Some of the top golfing personalities in the United States, including Tiger Woods, are also contributors. Funds are also raised by profits from the Western Open PGA event, held each year in the Chicago area, and by chapter and alumni fundraisers throughout the year.
Each year, more than 800 deserving caddies across the country attend college on a four-year scholarship from the Evans Scholars Foundation. Selected applicants must have a strong caddie seed5977Cyndi Rhuland Peltonenrecord, excellent grades, outstanding character and demonstrated financial need.
At the Evans Scholarship Houses, students live and work together cooperatively. Each Chapter elects its own officers, runs social and service activities and participates in campus programs. The Evans Scholars Chapters have earned a reputation on each campus for scholastic achievement and excellence in community service.
