Jazz at Southfield Library: Kathy Kosins Feb.18
(SPL Press Release, Feb.1, 2015)
“One of the most alluring voices in Jazz,” according to the Chicago Tribune, the Southfield Public Library welcomes award-winning vocalist Kathy Kosins back home to Southfield for a performance on Wednesday, February 18 at 6:30 p.m. General admission is $5.00 or $3.00 admission for Friends of the Southfield Public Library members. There is no charge for children under 12.
Kosins has won the hearts of critics and fans around the globe with her eclectic musical palette that expands the rich history of jazz. Born and bred during the Motown era, she began singing background vocals for producer Don Was in the early eighties. In the early 90s, Kosins fell in love with the freedom of the jazz art form and her writing naturally evolved into a more traditional approach. She recorded a number of albums and now releases singles quarterly. “If a live audience falls in love with a new song, I can record and release it to radio while the music is fresh and hot,” said Kosins.
Kathy excels as a painter, her abstract acrylics on canvas are influenced by the cubist paintings of the 50s. Kosins will paint during her performance and auction off the painting, with the proceeds going to the Friends of the Southfield Public Library.
Jazz & Blues is sponsored by the Friends of the Southfield Public Library and the Detroit Blues Society.
The Southfield Public Library is located in the Southfield Municipal Complex, 26300 Evergreen Road. Visit the Library’s Home Page at www.southfieldlibrary.org. For further information, please call the Guest Services Desk at (248)796-4224.
