Man Shot after Car Accident, Fires Back, Drives to Hospital, Hits Pole, and Passes Out Walking into ER

INCIDENT: 22:55 hrs. – Jan. 29, 2015 – City of Pontiac – Shooting/Assault w/Gun # 15-14679
SUMMARY: Deputies responded to McLaren Oakland Hospital for a shooting victim who had driven himself to the emergency room for treatment. The victim was suffering from a single gunshot wound to the arm. In addition, the victim struck a light pole with his vehicle outside of the hospital. The victim then walked into the E.R. and collapsed. The victim was unable to provide Deputies with the any details of the incident. The victim was taken into surgery and is expected to survive.
OUTCOME OF INCIDENT: Detectives responded to continue the investigation. The Crime Lab responded to process the victims’ truck. Doctors advise that Detectives may be able to interview him late Friday afternoon
VICTIM INFORMATION: A 38 year old male resident of Auburn Hills.
SUSPECT INFORMATION: Unknown at this time
Update as of 3:00PM today:
The shooting appears to be the result of a traffic accident at Arlene and Perry. After the accident the suspect and the victim drove to the “Terry Tire” parking lot to exchange information. The suspect told the victim he was going back to his car to get a pen. When he returned he pulled out a semi-automatic handgun and fired two shots, one which hit the victim. The victim, who was armed and who has a valid Concealed Pistol License (CPL) was not able to retrieve his weapon from his holster as his shooting hand/arm was the one shot.
Detectives checked and recovered two shell casings at the scene. There are no video cameras in the area.
The suspect is a light skinned black male who is described as 18 to 25 years old. He has short hair and mustache. The victim could not describe his clothing.
The suspect vehicle is a gold colored mid-size passenger car. It should have considerable damage to driver’s side rear quarter panel.
The victim had successful surgery and will recover.
