Having Hood Up to Scope Out Targets, Larceny Suspects Arrested in Highland Twp

INCIDENT: 01:05 hrs. – Jan. 15, 2015– Highland Township – Fleeing & Eluding / Larceny / Possession of Burglary Tools / OCSO K-9 Assist #15-7556
SUMMARY: A Deputy was on patrol in the area of the 1500 block of Essay Ln when he observed a vehicle parked on a private road with the hood up and unoccupied. A resident advised that the vehicle had been in the area several other times over the past month and always has the hood up. A check of the registration plate revealed that the vehicle and owner matched the description of a suspect in several larcenies in Springfield Township and Independence Township. Deputies observed three subjects get into the vehicle and leave the area into Rose Township. The vehicle was observed failing to stop at a stop sign and a traffic stop was initiated (overhead lights and siren activated) but the vehicle refused to stop. The vehicle pursuit continued for approximately two miles, entering into Holly Township. The suspect vehicle turned onto a dead end street and crashed into a ditch. Two subjects were taken into custody without incident and the third fled on foot. An OCSO K-9 deputy tracked the subject for approximately two miles, when the scent was lost and the track ended. Fenton PD and Michigan State Police assisted with establishing a
perimeter. The third suspect was located walking down the road by Fenton Police Officers and taken into custody.
OUTCOME OF INCIDENT: All three suspects were transported to the substation and a Detective responded to investigate. The investigation revealed that the subjects had stolen wire from a business located in the 6000 block of Hickory Ridge Rd. (American Aggregate of Michigan) that was located across a field from where the suspect vehicle was parked. Approximately $60,000 – $70,000 worth of wire that was stolen from the business was recovered from the suspects’ vehicle. Detectives were able to determine that the suspects were also involved in the larcenies of wire from the same business on 1-3-15 (Rpt #15-972 and on 1-9-15 (Rpt # 15-4283). The suspects were lodged at the Oakland County Jail pending the issuance of warrants.
