More on WBEF from their website:

The 2013-14 school year was busy! In November, we kicked off our ongoing Support Our gallowaycollens1Schools campaign which raised over $7200 from our wonderful district families.

For two weeks in February, we held ‘‘Coins for our Cause’’ that coincided with the WB Spirit weeks. Each school raised money for the WBEF and students came to school dressed to show their Laker Pride. In total, students raised over $4,000. Elementary classrooms that raised the most money received a pizza party as a token of our appreciation. In March, the Festival of Music was held at Orchard Mall. This daylong festival showcased the incredible instrumental, musical theatre, and vocal music talents of our students from Preschool through 12th grade. The festival also gave us an opportunity to display and highlight the exciting educational projects and programs WBEF has funded along with the high tech equipment we’ve purchased over the years.

934_8600_Gen-Online_Banners2We ended the school year with our 3rd annual $10,000 Raffle event. Over $4500 was raised for WBEF, while $4000 went to the winner.

As an extra providence, the lucky winner was former WBSD Principal Kathy Sheiko , who generously donated all of her prize money back to the WBEF, Blessings in a Backpack and Our Children’s Fund !

These events allow us to support our school district in a variety of ways. This was the tenth consecutive year for the WBEF Educators Grant Program , awarding over $150,000 since its inception. In 2013-14, more than twenty grants totaling over $12,500 were awarded. The grants funded a variety of innovative projects and initiatives that directly impacted student achievement at all grade levels. Among them were the ‘‘Chef for a Day/Farmer for a Day’’ sidebar012stairsprogram at Sheiko Elementary School, purchase of microscopes at Orchard Lake Middle School, Think Pads at WBHS and scientific calculators at Oakland Early College. Grant funds also purchased books, Elmos, Kindles and a Finch Ro bot. In addition, the Foundation contributed $5000 to support the First Robotics program at the high school providing students with hands-on training in science, engineering and technology. On behalf of the 6,000 students in the West Bloomfield School District, we thank you! Your generous donations and support help continue our students’ success in and out of the classroom.
