Level One Exhibits Art by Patrick Dengate
(C. Proxmire, Jan. 10, 2015)
In the gallery space of Level One Bank local artists have the opportunity to feature their works. From now until Feb. 22, 2015 it’s the colorful and calculated works of Ferndale-based artist Patrick Dengate. Done in a cubist style, the paintings are abstracted, yet recognizable, images. Some have a nautical theme, others are inspirations from visits to museums, others pay homage to aboriginal art and some honor works of architecture.
Dengate earned a BFA from Wayne State in 1984 and spent several years working in the realist style before coming into his own as a cubist painter. Among his inspirations are cubists like Georges Braque, Juan Gris and Pablo Picasso. But he also looks towards Robert Delaunay, Lyonel Feiniger, Erich Heckel, Franz Marc and Heinrich Capendock for inspiration.
His works have sold all over the world, and through Feb. 22 there will be 24 pieces on display, and available for purchase. Level One Bank is located at 22635 Woodward Avenue in Ferndale, two blocks south of 9 Mile. Hours are Monday – Thursday 9am-5pm and Friday 9am-6pm.
