Woman w/Loaded Gun Leads Police on Chase, Trooper Injured in Berkleylisa schmidt law

Location:          Southbound Woodward Avenue at Coolidge Ave, City of Royal Oak
Summary:        Metro Post Troopers while on patrol observed a 2001 White in color Volvo fail to stop at the Reid_Sally_115steady red signal on southbound M-1 and Coolidge Ave on January 7, 2015 at approximately 7 45PM. Troopers activated their emergency lights to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle, at which time the driver failed to stop and continued on southbound M-1. The driver continued to attempt to avoid troopers through the City of Berkley and the driver finally stopped behind a building in the 3200 block of Coolidge Ave. The driver, a 22 year old female from Detroit, exited the vehicle and attempted to run on foot. Troopers were able to catch the driver at which time she became combative and was taken into custody only after the trooper deployed their taser. During a search of the Volvo, troopers seed92929maioranaFamily_march2015located a Smith and Wesson 9mm handgun that was not registered to the driver. The driver did not have a CPL. The driver was lodged at the Oakland County Jail pending prosecutor review. Further investigation revealed that the driver was suspended and there was no insurance on the vehicle. The trooper sustained minor injuries and was treated on scene by EMS.
