SOGI Conference for Educators to Focus on LGBT Student Success Feb.6

Oakland University’s School of Education & Human Services’ Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity (SOGI) Initiative is excited to announce the 2015 Michigan SOGI Education Conference. This year’s conference will include 55-minute concurrent sessions and round-table discussions focused on meeting the needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, and intersex students, staff, faculty and administrators. The 2015 conference offers a full day complete with breakfast, lunch, and opportunities to reflect, network, and plan for the school year.
Keynote Speaker: Kris Hermanns, Executive Director
Pride Foundation
Keynote Address Title: The Next Frontier: Ensuring Safe Schools for all LGBTQ Students
Kris Hermanns is the executive director of Pride Foundation, a regional community foundation committed to inspiring giving to expand opportunities and advance full equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people and their families across the Northwest.
Kris has twenty years of experience and expertise as a strategist, fundraiser, and nonprofit executive. Before joining Pride Foundation, Kris was the deputy director at the National Center for Lesbian Rights. Prior to that, she served as a program officer with The Rhode Island Foundation. Kris also worked as associate director for Brown University’s Howard R. Swearer Center for Public Service. In addition to her professional work, Kris served on the board of directors of Funders for LGBTQ Issues and is a Green Bay Packers shareholder.
Kris earned a Masters of Education in Administration, Planning, and Social Policy from Harvard University and a B.A. in political science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
