Unlocked Vehicles Targeted by
Thieves, Two Arrested in Ferndale
(Crystal A. Proxmire, Dec. 29, 2014)
“Lock your cars.”
That’s the advice given by Ferndale Sgt. Baron Brown in response to the latest reports of thefts from vehicles.
The problem of people stealing from unlocked cars has been going on for decades, and certainly is not limited to Ferndale. However a spike in thefts happened this month, partly due to a pair of teenagers. A 19-year-old and a 15-year-old, both from Detroit, were arrested on Dec. 21 in conjunction with a series of thefts that took place that day Brown said.
“In every one [of the thefts] the vehicles were unlocked, except one that was locked and had some damage to it. Thieves look for unlocked cars and rifle through to take anything of value – phone chargers, loose change. It’s one of the most common crimes, made worse by the fact these guys would leave empty-handed if people did not make it so easy for them.”
