Love on the House Floor: State Rep Gives Surprise Proposal (video)

When Delena Kajy got called up in front of the State House on Dec. 9, she had no idea what her boyfriend, State Representative Klint Kesto was up to.  He told her there would be a simple resolution, but instead Kajy’s family emerged in the balcony and Kesto began the most romantic proclamation.  He asked her to marry him and she said yes.
Reading like a proclamation, Kesto’s proposal included the lines “Whereby we have shared a close bond of love, where my heart beats because I love you , I want you, and I need you. Whereas I will never leave your side, because in your presence I feel the warmth of home.”
Klesto is a Republican representing the 39th District:  West Bloomfield,Commerce Township, White Lake and Wixom.

“We met in Florida,” Kelsto said.  “I was in Florida visiting a cousin who had just had a baby, and she was visiting her friend.  She was living in Florida at the time. It was January of 2013.  We didn’t start dating right away.  I was a newly elected State Rep and a few months later we met again because she wanted to move to Michigan and wanted to know if I knew of any jobs.”
Once Kajy got settled in, having found a job with the University of Michigan Hospital, the pair began dating and fell in love.  “She is as gorgeous on the inside as she is beautiful on the outside,” Kelsto said about his new fience.  “She is genuine, sweet, humble and considerate. For me that is everything I can ask.”
He said he felt lucky to be in the position to do something nice for a proposal. “I wanted to give her a unique experience.  Not everyone likes a public proposal. She was really surprised. As I was reading it and her family came out I could see her face as she realized what was happening.  In some of the pictures you can see all the people with their cell phones coming around us taking pictures and videos.”
Klesto was recently re-elected to office for another two years.  He hopes the wedding will be in July, but said they have not yet set a date.
