Bicyclist Struck and Killed on Auburn Road

Bicyclist Struck and Killed on Auburn Road

(Oakland County Sheriff’s Dept, Dec. 11, 2014)

The Crash Reconstruction Unit is assisting deputies from the Pontiac Substation with the investigation of a vehicle/bicycle injury crash that occurred on Auburn Road near South Jessie Street on Dec. 8 at approximately 9:53pm.

A 71-year-old resident of Pontiac was crossing Auburn Road on his bicycle at a non-crosswalk area west of South Jessie Street when he was hit by at 1995 Chevolet C1500pick up driven by a 48-year-old resident of Pontiac who was travelling west on Auburn Road.

The bicyclist, who was not wearing a helmet, was transported to McLaren Oakland Hospital by Star EMS where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The driver of the Chevorlet was not injured. Seatbelt use is unknown.

Alcohol use may have been a factor for the bicyclist in this crash, which remains under investigation.
